We have a new project and it needs your help! This Giving Tuesday we are focusing on starting the DIVINE Project to create an LGBTQ+ training space to teach professional salon skills. Join us to support this exciting new endeavor!

40 young volunteers planted 150 plants to reactivate our medicinal garden at the clinic just after we finished our Fall Fundraiser where we surpassed our goal by raising $70,000! The planting felt like an especially poignant moment of collaborative effort creating progress.

I was raised in a home that listened to public radio where the only thing worse than classical music hour was the annual on-air pledge drive. Then, I grew up and fundraising became a big part of my life and I realized that I actually enjoy our own version of a pledge drive.

I hate feeling alone. But when I’ve got people by my side, I feel like we can face anything together. Maybe that’s why I love health fair days at the Nueva Vida Clinic so much. Everyone is in it together, and there is a solution for everything.

These systems have been so successful that 60 additional families have applied to receive an aquaponics system. Funding for the second phase of the project has been approved, and we hope to begin training the new families soon, building on the experience gained by the most successful systems from the first phase of the project.

The health promoters exude caring and welcoming vibes – together they have learned everything from CPR and injections to reiki to conflict resolution. They see 400 patients in their homes monthly and average 60 wound care sessions each month. The health promoters are not only the heart of the clinic, but of our community work overall.

A true fight against poverty involves social justice; in other words, working to transfer power to the poor.

The nature of our work – doing whatever is most needed to help the poor improve their lives – has meant that we’ve needed to become experts in a laundry list of areas over the decades.
