For Mother’s Day…Mothers with Goals

Moms with goals need your help!

This Mother’s Day, donate in honor of your mom to help moms in Nueva Vida learn skills they can use to bring their family needed income.

“We need classes like that!”

The Moms and Toddlers group, gathered together for their monthly meeting under the shade of our trees at the Nueva Vida Clinic, all agreed emphatically.

“We want to learn skills we can use to bring in money,”

They want to take classes like Las Lobas, our group for 11-18 year old girls. Over the past 10 years, the Lobas have learned many skills – how to do makeup, repair cellphones and now are even learning basic computer skills.

The moms and toddlers group is made up of graduates from the New Mothers group, which focuses on breastfeeding from birth to one year. Moms and Toddlers focuses on early childhood development and well-child checks from one to five years.

Now that their babies are toddlers, these moms want to bring money into their households. Although some of the moms graduated from high school, they have not been able to study at university or a technical school. They are looking for ways to make money from home, while caring for their kids. At a recent meeting, these moms told health promoter Haydeé that they want classes like Las Lobas. “We want to learn skills we can use to bring in money,” they told her. “We need your help to get classes for us!”

This Mother’s Day, give to Mamás con Metas in honor of your mom or loved one and help us meet our goal of raising $2,500 to give the moms their first six-month class. This will pay for materials and teacher.

The moms will use our education room at the Nueva Vida Clinic for the first class in party decoration. This is a skill they can immediately put to use to earn their family extra income at birthday parties, quinceaños, graduations and weddings. Nicaraguans love any excuse to party and December is the season for all these big events. The moms will graduate in time to get to work!
