The Casa Ben Linder is the CDCA’s education, art and solidarity center in Managua. The spacious guesthouse hosts volunteers, groups and gatherings as well as organizing tours and classes.

Nicaragua is a world leader in gender equality. In just 15 years, Nicaragua has closed the gender gap by more than 80%. Today, Nicaragua is the number one country in the world for educational attainment for women and girls, number one for women cabinet ministers and number three in the world for women in parliament. How has this small Central American country made such a difference in such a short time? Join us to explore Nicaragua and find out!

Rights of Indigenous & Afro-Descendant Peoples on Nicaragua’s Caribbean Coast

Where: Bilwi, Bonanza, Bluefields & Orinoco, Nicaragua

Description: Did you know Nicaragua has deeded 1/3 of it's territory to Indigenous communities? Indigenous & Afro-Descendant communities form two self-governing autonomous regions where in just 15 years local and national projects have transformed life through mutli-cultural, multi-lingual education at all levels, free inclusive health care and infrastructure. How has all this been accomplished is such a short time? Join us to explore Nicaragua and find out!

  • Visit Garífuna & Creole Afro-Descendant communities

  • Visit with local government officials

  • Meet with members of Parliament from the Caribbean Coast

The Bird Brigade

Where: Managua, Granada & Solentiname Nicaragua

Description:

Nicaragua is an ecological bridge that connects north and south, enjoying an extraordinary level of biodiversity. The Solentiname Islands an isolated archipelago of dense jungle, host an astonishing concentration of birdlife, including tiger herons, roseate spoonbills, and many migratory species. Today, the Solentiname community is widely known for its thriving artist population. Paintings by resident artists capture local imagery: exotic flora, vibrant birds, and inhabitants going about their daily life. Join us!

Brigade Activities:

·      Daily guided bilingual birding excursions

·      Guided boat tours to see birds as well as caiman, turtles, tropical frogs and a variety of monkeys.

·      Cultural tour of the archipelago with local hosts

·      Meet with primitivist painters to talk about their craft

·      Carve your own birds in balsa wood

·      Volcano night tour with bubbling lava

Volunteer Delegations

We host short term delegations for groups of people who want to learn about the country and contribute their grain of sand to Nicaragua’s struggle through volunteer construction, medical and solidarity work. Click here for FAQ and more information, or email.

We also offer opportunities for individual volunteers. As part of this program you will work closely in one of our projects and have the chance to learn about Nicaragua first hand. No matter what skills you have, we can put you to work!
