Excited for 2025?

JHC-CDCA 2024 Staff and Volunteers

While many we know are looking at 2025 with trepidation, we are excited for what’s to come. Why?

Firstly, 2024 has been a great year! We celebrated 45 years of our organization and 30 years in Nicaragua! We dared to envision the next 5 years. We strengthened collaborations, especially the Nicaraguan Ministry of Health MINSA, which has already led to improved access to care for patients.

On top of all this, our fall fundraiser was successful! Unfortunately, we’re still struggling financially. Why? Rising costs in medicines, cleaning supplies and even things like fixtures for toilets and screws; diesel, propane and electricity are expensive in Nicaragua, despite our lower electrical costs with solar panels; banking, transfer and legal fees in Nicaragua have risen too; and the list goes on.

We’re asking you to make a tax-deductible gift to the general budget before December 31st, in order to make possible all our plans for 2025.

What’s in store for 2025?

·         We have fully funded an expanded program for the at-risk youth which includes college prep and visits to universities!

·         We have fully funded four vocational courses for 25 moms in the Mamas con Metas program!

·         The Nicaraguan Fisheries Institute will cover ongoing aquaponics trainings and technical assistance! (We are hoping to fund more aquaponics systems, but our funding source fell through.)

·         We hope to begin makeup and hair training for the sexual diversity group through the DIVINE salon project (pending funding)

·         We will collaborate with MINSA on follow up for abnormal PAPs, mammograms, birth control implants and tubal ligations

·         We will organize pediatrics health fairs and administer micronutrients for children under five with MINSA

·         Our dental hygienist will begin visiting local schools for teaching and dental care

·         Casa Ben Linder will host five brigades visiting Nicaragua

·         Staff and health promoters will be trained to respond to natural disasters
